RETRY Review

From the guys sitting in the room next to the guys who made Angry Birds, comes RETRY – a game so hard, so addictive, so old school that you’ll think you’ve stepped into an 8-bit time machine and gone back to 1986. Totally rad!Rovio

This week Rovio released a game that doesn’t have anything to do with the popular franchise Angry Birds. Shocking, right!? The game is called RETRY, and from what I’ve played so far, it’s extremely frustrating…

The aim of the game is to guide a tiny 8-bit aeroplane from the start to the finish of a course. Sounds easy? Well it’s not. To move forward you tap the screen and to stop moving you let go. However, when you move forward the plane also banks upwards meaning that if you’re not careful you could end up just looping around and around, not actually going anywhere.

The game’s style is that of a retro 8-bit arcade game, with appropriate music to accompany it. It runs buttery smooth on my phone (Moto G), and I would assume it would be the same on pretty much every single other device it’s compatible with. So that’s a plus…

You can stop off at retry points along your route which you can go back to in the event you crash (which will be often). To unlock them you can either pay 1 coin, which you collect in each level or watch an advert (usually about TheSlowMoGuys…) that lasts about 30 seconds,so it’s your choice.

The levels are suitably frustrating and I kept coming across new challenges just as I was getting used to the old ones.

Given the fact that RETRY is free, and the only ads in the game are actually helpful, I would head over to the Play Store (or App Store, I won’t judge) and download this little gem as soon as possible.
